BIOGRAPHY
Bronwyn has been praised for her “rich, warm tone” and “quietly radiant presence” by Limelight Magazine, who also featured her as a “Rising Star” and one of the “Next Generation” of Australian opera singers in 2019. Bronwyn is very pleased to be working with Opera Australia for their upcoming productions of Ernani and Tosca to be performed at the Sydney Opera House in February/March 2021.
In 2020 Bronwyn was set to work with Opera Australia in their production of La traviata - Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, Queensland Symphony Orchestra in their yearly Opera Gala and Melbourne Opera in their production of Das Rheingold which were all postponed due to Covid. Bronwyn instead used 2020 as an opportunity to work on changing fach to Soprano, a very exciting journey.
In 2019, Bronwyn performed with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in Chorus Oz: Ode to Joy, an event at the Sydney Opera House which involved a choir of over 500 singers, and was broadcast on ABC. She also performed in Opera Australia’s Don Giovanni and sat in on rehearsals of Melbourne Opera’s Norma, second covering the role of Adalgisa, which she studied in New York the previous year. Other performances included “Opera Under the Stars” with Teddy Tahu Rhodes in Broome. In competition, Bronwyn was a finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship and the recipient of the More Than Opera Encouragement Grant at the German-Australian Opera Grant.
In 2018, Bronwyn debuted as Rosina in Co-Opera’s regional tour of The Barber of Seville. She then proceeded to undertake significant overseas study thanks to substantial awards won in 2017. This included the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto in Italy, one month in London working with coaches from The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and 3 months in New York studying with teachers and coaches from The Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School.
In 2016, Bronwyn became a Melba Opera Trust Artist, holding the Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship for two years. During this time, Bronwyn performed the roles of Flora in La traviata for Opera New England (2016), Suzuki in Madama Butterfly for Opera Projects, Sydney (2016), and Olga in Co-Opera’s regional tour of Eugene Onegin (2017). She also performed in concert with The Royal Melbourne Philharmonia (2016) and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs (2017) to rave reviews. In 2017, Bronwyn was a finalist in almost every major Australian Opera competition and was the winner of both The Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award and The Opera Foundation for Young Australians Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship.
Bronwyn holds a Bachelor of Music from the Australian National University School of Music (2012) and a Masters in Operatic Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (2014). At the Queensland Conservatorium, she performed the role of Forrester’s Wife in The Cunning Little Vixen and received an award for academic excellence and The Queensland Wagner Society Encouragement Award. While studying at the Queensland Conservatorium, Bronwyn undertook the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School under scholarship for three consecutive years (2013-2015) and The Mediterranean Opera Studio in Italy (2014).
After completing her Masters Bronwyn performed in concert with Queensland Symphony Orchestra in their Music on Sundays Series (2015) and in multiple performances of The Messiah (2015-2016). She also sang the role of Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas for Brisbane Baroque Festival (2015) and Miss Baggott in The Little Sweep for the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, Townsville (2015).
